Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival in Faro · Settling into the Coast
Upon arrival at Faro International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to Victoria Golf Resort & Spa, located in the heart of the Algarve golf region. The drive is short, and within minutes the rhythm of the coast begins to replace the pace of travel.
The resort’s architecture is modern yet understated, with generous open spaces that blend naturally with the surrounding golf landscape. It is an ideal place to begin a golf holiday.
The first day is intentionally relaxed. After check-in, take time to rest, stroll around the resort, or simply sit in one of the lounge areas and let the body gradually adjust to the new time zone. The Algarve is best enjoyed at an unhurried pace, and this gentle start allows the transition from travel mode to holiday mode to happen naturally.
As the starting point of the journey, Victoria Golf Resort & Spa offers exactly the right introduction — quiet comfort, balanced design, and the perfect atmosphere to prepare for the rounds ahead.
Day 2 | Old Course Golf Club
The first official round of the trip takes place at the Old Course, one of the most historic and respected golf courses in the Algarve. Consistently ranked among the Top 10 courses in Portugal, it remains a must-play for experienced golfers visiting the region.
Designed by legendary architect Frank Pennink, the course reflects a classic and understated style. Fairways wind through mature pine forests, with natural undulations that demand careful shot placement and strategic thinking.
Rather than relying on dramatic water hazards or visual spectacle, the Old Course challenges players through subtle design elements — tree-lined corridors, slope variations, and well-defended greens. Mistakes are rarely punished immediately, but their consequences often unfold gradually over the next few shots.
The enduring appeal of the Old Course lies in its timeless design. It is a course that reveals its character slowly, often becoming more memorable after the round than during it.
As the opening round of the journey, it sets a perfect tone: classic, composed, and quietly demanding.
Day 3 | Ombria Golf Course · A Valley-Inspired Design
Today’s round takes place at Ombria Golf Course, one of Portugal’s newest high-end golf developments. Designed by former European Tour professional Jorge Santana da Silva, the course has quickly attracted attention since opening just a few years ago.
Located within a protected natural valley, Ombria unfolds organically along rolling hills, streams, and ancient olive groves. Unlike many coastal Algarve courses, it offers a rare mountain-valley landscape, creating a distinctive playing environment.
Centuries-old olive trees line the fairways, their twisted trunks and scattered fruit giving the course a sense of authenticity rarely found in modern resort golf. The landscape feels natural rather than staged, blending seamlessly with the surrounding nature reserve.
Day 4 | The Els Club · A Championship Private Course
The Els Club (formerly Victoria Golf Course) was designed by major champion Ernie Els and is widely recognized as one of Portugal’s most prestigious golf venues.
Built to championship standards, the course features expansive fairways, dramatic water hazards, strategically placed bunkers, and multi-tiered greens that demand thoughtful approach play.
For many years the course hosted the European Tour’s Portugal Masters, and it now operates as an exclusive private club. Maintenance standards remain exceptionally high, with pristine playing surfaces from tee to green reflecting the quality expected of a professional tournament venue.
Day 5 | Rest Day · The Algarve Coast
Day five is intentionally left open — a pause in the rhythm of the trip.
After several days of walking the fairways, this is the moment to let the pace of the Algarve take over.
Those wishing to explore can visit the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a vast coastal lagoon system of wetlands and barrier islands. Boat trips or walking trails offer peaceful views of one of southern Portugal’s most beautiful ecosystems.
For more dramatic coastal scenery, a visit to the cliffs of Lagos reveals the Algarve’s famous golden rock formations and sea caves carved by centuries of Atlantic waves.
Alternatively, guests may simply remain at the resort — enjoying a quiet walk along the coast, a café by the marina, or a relaxing afternoon at the hotel spa.
The purpose of the day is not how much one sees, but the balance it restores before the next rounds.
Day 6 | Quinta do Lago · Laranjal Course
Quinta do Lago is one of the Algarve’s most prestigious golf resorts, home to three courses consistently ranked among the best in Portugal.
Today’s round is at the elegant Laranjal Course, widely considered the most refined layout within the resort.
Set among mature orange groves and pine forests, the course offers a calm and intimate atmosphere. Compared with the championship feel of the South Course or the strategic complexity of the North Course, Laranjal emphasizes rhythm, balance, and visual harmony.
Fairways flow naturally through the landscape, with thoughtful green complexes that reward precise distance control and intelligent positioning.
Day 7 | Quinta do Lago · North or South Course
The final round of the journey takes place at either the North Course or South Course at Quinta do Lago, both widely regarded as flagship designs of the Algarve region.
The North Course is particularly admired for its landscape composition. The entire layout is framed by beautifully maintained pine forests, creating a clean visual structure reminiscent of classic courses such as Poppy Hills at Pebble Beach, yet executed with even greater refinement.
While relatively forgiving off the tee, the course places significant emphasis on green complexes and putting precision, rewarding golfers who manage distance and tempo carefully.
Day 8 | Departure from Faro
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Faro International Airport.
Before leaving, take one last look at the Algarve coastline — the pine forests, ocean breeze, and quiet rhythm of the fairways that have shaped the past few days.
Day 9 | Return Journey
The final day is largely spent traveling home.
Long flights offer time to reflect on the journey — the courses, the landscapes, and the slow rhythm of golf along Portugal’s southern coast.
By the time you return home, the itinerary may be complete, but the memory of the Algarve’s sunlight, fairways, and sea air remains.
