Meet your guide at the lobby of your hotel in Xian city center to start this tour at Huxian County located about 70 kilometers southwest of Xian and a 1.5 hour driving in your private vehicle.
This county was named the County of Painting by the Chinese Ministry of Culture in 1988 because of the renowned peasant paintings. Historically, the peasants portray almost every aspect in their everyday life like feeding their animals, children playing or elders playing Chinese chess. They record their beautiful landscape and festivals using bright colors and a fantastic style. Not only will you be able to enjoy these paintings when you visit, but you’ll be able to take a painting lesson, and visit a traditional farmer & painter’s home.
For lunch, you’ll experience a local family’s cooking, and after that, we will go back to Xi’an and visit the Muslim Street for more local snacks. The Muslim street is a paved road with blue/gray flagstones and shaded by trees, along which the archaized stores of the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties are in line. All stalls are operated by people belonging to the Hui ethnic minority group.
Next will be the Old City Wall. This is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. After the extension, the wall now stands 12 meters (40 feet) tall, 12-14 meters (40-46 feet) wide at the top and 15-18 meters (50-60 feet) thick at the bottom. It covers 13.7 kilometers (8.5 miles) in length with a deep moat surrounding it. Every 120 meters, there is a rampart which extends out from the main wall. All together, there are 98 ramparts on the wall, which were built to defend against the enemy climbing up the wall. Each rampart has a sentry building, in which the soldiers could protect the entire wall without exposing themselves to the enemy.
Once the tour finishes, we will transfer you back to your hotel with the rest of the day on your own arrangement.
