When to go

March to May (Spring) and September to November (Fall). These times tend to have the most pleasant weather for travel. The first week of October should be avoided since it is the Chinese National Day holiday and many Chinese tourists are traveling throughout the country. The same is true for visiting during the Canton Trade Fair which takes place twice a year: Mid-April to early May and mid-October to early November.

The Yuan, locally called Renminbi (RMB) or, more informally, Kwai. U.S. Dollars can be used at most tourist attractions, but the poor exchange rates don’t make it worthwhile. ATMs are widely available throughout the country but are rare in rural areas. Credit cards accepted include Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Federal and Million.
